Autism. Sweet poison. Literally.

I left the book Sweet Poison lying around the house a few weeks ago. Bright Eyes wanted to know what it was about, so I explained that it was about how sugar wasn't good for you.

"Is it sweet poison?" he asked.

"Yes, I guess so," I said.

"So will you die if you have it?" he asked.

"Um, if you have too much over a long time, it's not good for you," I said.

Yesterday I bought a lollipop for him home from the shop, after I bought one for his brother.

"I don't want this mum," he said, and offered it back to me in a move that is extremely out of character for him.

"It's Sweet Poison."

Clearly I'm going to have to be careful what I teach him if he's such a good learner.
