Thinking. It's all in the cupboard.

Last Saturday 16 year old Jessica Watson sailed into Sydney after an epic solo voyage around the world in her sailing boat.

Two things came to my mind.

Firstly, she must have had fantastic parents who believed in her and encouraged her and who could take a fair bit of uncertainty.

Secondly, she must have had some amazing sponsors. I counted 37 companies listed on her website who supported her and supplied what she needed. They included technology, media, food and even skincare/cosmetics companies! Hey, I guess a girl's got to look her best wherever she is.

While Jessica Watson took risks and was brave and worked hard, she couldn't have done it without the backup behind her.

It reminded me of this verse: His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3.

If you imagine our Christian lives to be like a round-the-world sailing voyage, we can take heart in the fact that our sponsor has already been found. It's God. And he's given us everything we need before we even set out.

Imagine if Jessica Watson got out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and suddenly had a panic. "Oh no! What am I going to have for breakfast? Where's my sunscreen? How am I going to stay in touch with my family? What if the boat breaks?"

Her job was to keep sailing, and to keep looking in the store cupboard and find the things she needed and put them to use.

We've been given so much by God. But I know I often just leave his provisions in the cupboard and forget about them. And then go out and have a little panic when I see the waves looking large.

Our job is to sail on the course he's set, and to use what he's given us along the way.
