Sometimes you've got to celebrate a bargain

This is my first blog post in my new look website and I'm a little bit excited about it. Just in case you didn't realise.

I've been wanting to redesign for a while and I've had my eye on the new Squarespace 6 platform (I used Squarespace 5 before) just because they have such great graphics capabilities and it's all drag and drop and easy to use. Of course, I'm sure you're not here for computer techno-geek speak, so I'll get on with the blog.

I should probably write something meaningful about new stages in life and change and whatnot. Or, using the graphic above, a bit about walking a mile in someone else's shoes as we experience the world but the fact is, I can't think of anything to say except *aren't my pictures and the design, like, totally awesome?*

It's a bit of a celebration post.

And on that note, I just have to share this.

My boy Bright Eyes has been desperate to have a pair of ankle height Converse sneakers for a while and today, as we visited an actual shopping centre, it was our chance to get them.

Personally, I was hoping we'd find some cheap knockoffs at Target, because, you know, budgets! But unfortunately dodgy ripoffs were not to be found. There were plenty of the real thing, all priced at $90 but my bargain hunting nose just couldn't accept it and my bank balance wouldn't have stood for it.

So we went looking.

The poor child was dragged through six different shops asking me, "Well, how much money did you bring with you?" and then, as he got more and more anxious, coming out with, "Well, you're the worst mother ever," at which point I glared at him. "Do you want these shoes or not?"

And then we got to Myer.

As we tramped through menswear I heard this over the loudspeaker: "Customers, today we have a one day only 20% off sale on all children's clothes and footwear, so come on down to Level 1."

Guess where we went?

There on Level 1 was one pair of Converse sneakers, just his size. Priced at $60, they were already $30 less than in other places. And when you added the 20% discount they came out at $48. Exxy, still, for us, but we could do it.

I took the shoes to the counter and presented my credit card. And then I heard these words.

"Would you like to use your credit card points to purchase these?"

I looked at the girl. "Can I do that?" I asked.

"Yes, it's new," she said. And she swiped my card. "You've got $42 worth of points."

I did some quick maths. Converse sneakers for $6? You betcha.  It was the bargain of the day and I'm not sure who was more excited about them - the kid who's wearing them or me!
